A 2022 survey of Illinois College alumni collected valuable feedback that has shaped and continues to guide the College’s strategic vision. Below are some key findings along with the ongoing initiatives to address these findings.

The Basics, Rankings & Behaviors

  • 722 respondents completed the survey. The 12.3% response is consistent with national averages and significant enough to represent broader trends in the IC alumni community.
  • 53% responded 7 or higher when asked to rank how connected they feel to IC. 
  • 74% responded 7 or higher when asked how likely they are to recommend Illinois College to a prospective student.
  • 50% say they promote Illinois College regularly or all the time.

Takeaway: Alumni want to know their degree is valuable and to hear what IC is doing to increase that value. They want to know that prospective students have access to scholarships.
  • Action: Highlight student stories and improvements on campus more widely on social media, in publications, newsletters and other communications. 
  • Action: Communicate more frequently the number and types of scholarships students are receiving. Promote Illinois College Advantage Plus on alumni channels include the Quarterly Magazine. 
  • Action: Highlight stories of alumni who are making a difference by investing in scholarships and the difference those scholarships make in the lives of students. 
Takeaway: Alumni want to hear stories about how an IC education enhances a person’s career. 
  • Action: Intentionally focus on highlighting and celebrating alumni achievements. 
  • Action: Highlight the growth of specific programs alongside the continued commitment to liberal arts tenets and IC traditions. 
  • Action: Use the new alumni database to better track where alumni are working. 
  • Action: Invite more alumni speakers who have found success in a diverse range of fields to present to both student and alumni audiences. 
Takeaway: Many alumni expressed wanting to mentor and help current students.

  • Action: Revitalize event-based opportunities to bring together alumni and donors with students. 
  • Action: Partner closely with the Career Readiness and Experiential Learning department on campus to develop more ways for alumni to identify job opportunities for young graduates and internships for students. 
Takeaway: Alumni want the Alumni Association to play a meaningful role in what is happening on campus. 
  • Action: Empower alumni to serve as ambassadors and volunteers to promote IC to prospective students, sponsors, partners and donors to the College. Create useful resources. 
  • Action: Include the Alumni Association in campus committees and advising boards where they can collaborate and share their perspective on initiatives based in employment, enrollment and engagement. 
Takeaway: Alumni want to hear more about alumni events and important things happening on campus even if they aren’t able to attend.
  • Action: Expand the number of event invitations sent to include more alumni.
  • Action: Provide coverage for all alumni events in the form of video and photography for social media platforms and alumni newsletters/publications. 
  • Action: Expand communication platforms to include text messages, email, mail and social media to allow alumni to get information in the way that suits them best.
  • Action: Create new ways for alumni to share their photos/feedback from IC events with the broader community.
