Fall 2020: From the President

students on campus
The once-in-a-century pandemic that is touching everyone’s personal and professional lives influenced everything Illinois College students, faculty and staff did this fall.

Committed to offering students the personalized education and valuable experiences that will prepare them exceptionally well, the campus community reimagined every aspect of the college experience, including the combination of in-person instruction supported by online elements, rearrangement of classrooms to allow for physical distancing and expanded residential options to lower the numbers of students living together.

Cooperatively, we created a community of care culture that recognizes the Hilltop’s collective responsibility to keep the campus healthy and in session. The Midwest Conference suspended competitions for fall sports for safety reasons, but IC Athletics was valiant in providing student-athletes with opportunities to take part in strength and conditioning programs and hold team practices.

Though we are disappointed that the fall season was not possible, we remain committed to students having meaningful experiences with their coaches and teammates. This issue of the Quarterly tells the story of what students and coaches have achieved this fall in the context of necessary restrictions and also celebrates intercollegiate student-athletes and coaches who have distinguished themselves across the decades.

Inspiring Achievement: The Campaign for Illinois College has raised over $40 million against our bold goal of $50 million. The final stretch of the Campaign is focused on raising funds to undertake Phase II of the Crispin Hall renovation project, expand opportunities for students to receive scholarships and experiential learning funding as they prepare to Graduate READY. The Campaign also supports students’ greatest educational needs during the pandemic, including access to laptop computers, scholarships and academic coaches through gifts to the #TogetherIC annual fund drive. Your commitment to the success of the Campaign is strengthening IC’s capacity to offer all students life-changing experiences — thank you!

To all IC alumni and friends who are first responders, we send our gratitude for your dedication to serve your communities during this most challenging time. You are our heroes.

All best wishes for a blessed and safe holiday season,
