Illinois College plans students’ return to campus in August
For many, the pandemic has highlighted what is important. It has reinforced that where you go to college matters.
Illinois College is preparing to hold in-person classes this fall, while continuing to plan for alternative scenarios should local, state or federal restrictions be in place for the operation of higher education institutions.
IC is committed to limiting the disruption of students’ education in any scenario. A task force has been assembled to examine the precautions that would need to be taken as the College aims to welcome students back to campus in late August.
The task force is meeting virtually on a regular basis and following guidance from government authorities and professional associations in its deliberations about how best to resume operations this fall. The College is also working closely with public health officials and other local leaders in developing its plans.
Fall semester classes are scheduled to begin on August 25, but President Barbara A. Farley said that the College is researching the possibility of altering its calendar similar to what other colleges and universities nationwide have recently announced.
President Farley shared a video message to students that emphasized Illinois College’s commitment to providing a personalized education in a student-centered, safe environment. She also expressed how eager the IC community is to have students back in classrooms and campus facilities.
“I'm proud of you and grateful for your determination to handle a huge disruption with a positive attitude and grit that will get you to the other side of today's challenges,” she said. “For many, the pandemic has highlighted what is important. It has reinforced that where you go to college matters.”
Illinois College has an advantage with class sizes as colleges and universities across the country explore precautions and social distancing measures for the fall. Professors and staff at IC have been able to devote individualized, personal attention to help students adapt to any changes to higher education during the pandemic.
