Lessons from the stage

Squire Prince ’18 says that some of his favorite roles he has played at Illinois College are Ike in “Newsies,” Louis in “Angels in America” and Tyrell in “Richard III.”

He was featured as the lead in IC Theatreworks’ most recent production, “The Robber Bridegroom,” in spring 2018, was director of “12hr Life” and assistant director of “Middletown,” and has worked backstage in stage management and light designing.

All of the theatre experience he has collected during his time as a student at Illinois College has certainly given him some memorable experiences and made him a more skilled actor, director and designer. Still, the aspiring Broadway star also acknowledges that his education has shaped him as a person in a broader sense.

“The IC Theatre Department has taught me to be a better person in a general sense. They have trained me to have a better work ethic and professionalism. They have worked diligently with me on prioritizing responsibilities. I will be forever grateful to everyone involved in my experiences here,” said Prince.

Prince will graduate in May with a degree in theatre and music and will continue working with the Illinois College and MacMurray College Theatre Departments for a year while preparing to relocate to New York City next spring to pursue his acting career in the theatre capital of the world.
