GROWING with GROWMARK
Special Feature
Along with Jim Spradlin ’82, other IC alumni have gone on to work with GROWMARK in the ag industry following graduation.
At Illinois College there were several opportunities to engage with people of different backgrounds, knowledge and perceptions. These experiences have cultivated for me a more productive approach to strategic conversations with internal and external business relationships.
At IC, Brendan majored in business and finance. He has been with GROWMARK for five years and has 10 years of experience in the FS system as a crop specialist, precision specialist, location manager and applicator.
The liberal arts education I received at IC gave me a broad perspective which has been invaluable in my career. That perspective enables me to ask questions, think critically and cultivate a vision for the future, which is critical in my current role at GROWMARK. My experiences at IC, both in and out of the classroom, taught me the importance of listening to all voices, learning from one another and respecting all opinions.
Heather majored in communication and political science at IC and went on to earn a master’s degree in strategic management from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. She has been with GROWMARK for 12 years.
Illinois College taught me the value of making decisions that benefit where you want to be, rather than decisions that satisfy where you currently are, both from an organizational and personal perspective. Many of my courses and instructors emphasized applying fundamental HR management concepts to present circumstances as a means to illuminate a path to a desired future end-state, and then to take action that creates a competitive sustainable advantage to get you there.
Niko is a recent graduate who majored in human resource management.
