Please join us at 6pm on the Illinois College Quad for some fun family activities, all to the accompaniment of the Burr Oak String Band who will be performing from 6-7pm. While rooted in the traditions of American Old-time string music, the close harmonies and the interplay of mandolin, guitar, fiddle and clawhammer banjo bring the Burr Oak sound to other musical genres and traditions. The musicians of this ensemble are widely known as performers and composers of bluegrass music throughout the Midwest and in Canada.</p><p><strong>Fine Arts Series Ticket Information:</strong><br>Adult season tickets are available for $70, which is a $15 savings over purchasing tickets individually. Adult tickets to individual concerts are available for $20 per concert, except for the family programs on October 23, when adult tickets will be just $5. Known for performing repertoire of well-known composers alongside selections by under-represented masters, Hofeling is also a consummate improviser. Enjoy this rare opportunity to watch an abridged version of the 1922 silent film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror accompanied by organ improvisation. Included in Roger Ebert’s list of Great Movies, IMDB calls this first-ever vampire film “one of the silent era’s most influential masterpieces.” Is this horror family-friendly? Absolutely! This admission-free event is a gift to the community and will consist of three concerts. The “popular and highly unusual classical quartet” Quartetto Gelato opens the festival on Thursday evening with an enchanting and eclectic program. Featuring repertoire that includes not only classical masterpieces, but also regional music from all over the globe, the group’s virtuosity and versatility along with their warm and engaging stage presence are sure to enrich and excite you. With sold-out performances around the globe and a recording which has been to outer space, this ensemble is a must see! Friday’s program is our annual Faculty Collage Concert, highlighting the exceptional talents of the Illinois College music faculty. Finally, Saturday’s concert will feature guitar ensemble Duo 220. Hailed for their “extraordinary technique and musicianship,” Duo 220 has established a firm position at the forefront of American guitar ensembles.
