Illinois College revitalizes computer science program in collaboration with Google

Illinois College is shaping the future of tech by equipping students majoring in computer science with cutting-edge skills and hands-on experience.

Designed in collaboration with Google, IC’s computer science degree prepares students to Graduate READY for in-demand careers in software engineering, data analysis, and beyond. This innovative program offers the best of both worlds—students benefit from an immersive campus experience while gaining access to industry-leading expertise through online coursework. Core classes are held on campus, allowing students to engage in hands-on learning and take full advantage of life at the Hilltop. At the same time, specialized upper-level courses are delivered online by industry experts, ensuring students gain real-world insights and the latest tools shaping the field.

The program balances academic rigor with applied experience. Students will develop expertise in programming, algorithm development, and computer hardware through coursework and real-world projects. Access to state-of-the-art facilities in Crispin Hall, an advanced computing lab, and a virtual reality studio ensures they work with the latest technology.

Computer science is one of the fastest-growing fields, with a projected 25% job growth by 2031 and an average salary exceeding $100,000 per year. IC’s program follows ACM guidelines to ensure students gain the most relevant, up-to-date skills. Recent computer science graduates work at DOT Foods, State Farm, IBM, and JPMorganChase. Illinois College is now accepting applications for students ready to launch a future.
