BreakAways and Study Abroad Funding
Illinois College seeks to prepare students for an increasingly shrinking world, and therefore has committed a substantial amount of resources to make BreakAways and Study Abroad affordable.
Some important factors to keep in mind when planning to fund your study abroad or global BreakAway:
- All federal and state financial aid “travels with” students to off-campus locations.
- For institutional financial aid, the amount applicable toward off-campus study depends on the cost of the program.
- There are special BreakAway Funds available to all students to subsidize travel.
- Additional Illinois College Travel Awards for international experiences are available for eligible students.
Does your financial aid include a Pell Grant and you plan to study abroad for a minimum of 4 weeks? Then you are also eligible for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad.
Will you be studying in an area of the world that is “underrepresented” as a study abroad destination? Are you learning a “less commonly taught“ language? Then check out the Boren Awards for International Study, specifically the Boren Scholarship for undergraduates.
Is your major in the sciences or engineering? Can you picture yourself with a summer internship conducting research in Germany? (German language proficiency is not required.) Then compete for a Research Internship in Science and Engineering (RISE) scholarship.
