National honor society brings diverse benefits for IC students

4.24.2018

Illinois College is inducting its first group of students to the College’s newly created chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society founded in 1924 to recognize the academic achievements of first-year college students.

Not only will these students have the chance to improve their resumes and connect with other scholars, they will be considered for scholarships and fellowships that can fund research, study abroad and graduate study.

On Thursday, April 26, at 8:30 p.m., nearly 150 new members will be inducted into the society in Cummings Dining Hall on the Illinois College campus. Because this is the first year for the society at IC, inductees will be first-year students as well as sophomore and junior students who qualify based on their academic merits since their first year at Illinois College.

Karen Homolka, assistant dean of students and director of the Center for Student Involvement, will serve as chapter advisor. She says the organization will have many diverse benefits for IC students who join.

“I’m happy to see so many of our deserving students taking advantage of the opportunity to join this prestigious national community of scholars,” said Homolka. “Not only will these students have the chance to improve their resumes and connect with other scholars, they will be considered for scholarships and fellowships that can fund research, study abroad and graduate study.”

Members will also give back to their campuses and communities through various service projects and receive special recognition during graduation. To learn more about the Illinois College chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, contact Karen Homolka at 217.245.3094 or karen.homolka@ic.edu.
