Guns vs. Hoses brings together local police and fire departments in friendly competition
Illinois College Football will host Guns vs. Hoses, a seven-on-seven flag football game between members of the Jacksonville Police Department and the Jacksonville Fire Department, at 12:30 p.m. on March 30 at IC’s England Stadium.
Admission to the family-friendly event is free and it is open to the public. A bounce house will be set up for children. Mike Snyder, director of athletics at Illinois College, said he expects the event to bring together the entire Jacksonville community for an afternoon of fun.
Athletic Director Mike Snyder said he is grateful for the efforts of Head Football Coach Ray DeFrisco and all those involved with the planning of this event.
“Any time we can engage our local heroes and provide an opportunity to welcome the Jacksonville community to campus, it’s a big win,” said Snyder. “I look forward to the event and promoting some healthy competition between our police officers and firefighters.”
IC football players Jasaun King ’21, Zach Heren ’20 and Jaylen Lewis ’22 are among the student-athletes who have helped to organize the event and to promote the game on campus and in the local community.
Lewis, a first-year student, said he is excited to be involved an exciting day honoring first responders and looks forward to seeing the competition. He added, “I am thankful to get the chance to help bring the community together, especially those who serve us and put their lives on the line.”
