IC Online adds ESL to flexible offerings for teachers
Illinois College will offer a fully online English as a second language endorsement as part of its established education program beginning this summer.
The ESL endorsement credential prepares teachers with the specialized knowledge and skills they need to make a positive impact on the lives of English language learners in K-12 classrooms and beyond.
The program is designed for licensed teachers or Illinois College students earning a degree in education. It can be added to a teaching license in early childhood, elementary, middle grades or secondary level education. The online program can be completed by working teachers in under a year.
The new endorsement continues to build on the strong tradition of IC’s education program, Assistant Professor of Education and Department Chair Jaime Klein said.
“This program offers the personal attention that Illinois College is known for, whether you are a full-time IC student pursuing your education degree or a working teacher in need of a flexible format,” Klein said. “We will be with you each step of the way, so you will finish the program ready to be a teacher and advocate for English language learners in your community.”
The new ESL program is the second online endorsement for teachers offered by Illinois College, IC’s Director of Online Programs Nick Capo noted. IC Online launched the reading teacher endorsement in 2020. He added, “These endorsements are designed for teachers who want to advance their career, build on their skills and help students.”
Classes begin May 10 and run every eight weeks. For more details and to register, visit online.ic.edu.
