First-time, first-year students who meet academic requirements will gain automatic entry into the traditional track nursing program with clinical work beginning during the spring of sophomore year.
Direct Entry: You may be automatically admitted into the nursing program by achieving:
- 3.5/4.0 Weighted GPA AND no grade below “B” in math or science; OR
- 3.0/4.0 Weighted GPA AND minimum SAT of 1100 (22 ACT)
As a direct entry nursing student, you must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA at Illinois College and a grade of “C” or above in all prerequisite nursing courses.
Pre-Nursing Students: You may also apply for the nursing program through the standard pathway during your sophomore year. Pre-nursing students complete pre-clinical coursework to meet entry standards after which you may pursue nursing.
Transfer students will be accepted into the clinical program on a case-by-case basis that will include a transcript review. A strong application will include:
- A “C” or better in all prerequisite and major courses.
- A college cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Good standing in their sending school.
- Test scores are not required.
Current Illinois College students will be admitted to the nursing program on a case-by-case basis that will include a transcript review. A strong application will include:

Prerequisite courses for the nursing major to be completed with a “C” or better include:
- Human Biology
- MicroBiology
- Chemistry
- Introduction to Psychology
- Introduction to Sociology
- Human Development (Psych)
- Nutrition
- Statistics
- Anatomy and Physiology I and II
Transportation
By second semester of sophomore year, all nursing students in the traditional track must secure reliable transportation to travel to clinicals located in Jacksonville and Springfield.
