Mechanical Engineering

Jump into mechanical engineering your first year, learning design process, robotics, and CAD right from the start.

Mechanical Engineering at Illinois College

Solve real-world design problems with business partners like Reynolds that prepare you for internships and professional practice. In fact, a free prep program for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) licensure exam is built into your coursework to ensure your expertise on industry standards. You’ll earn your degree from a mechanical engineering program with a 100% success rate

Mechanical Engineering Highlights

Learning By Doing

As an IC engineering student, you’ll be in demand for internships and jobs thanks to the broad exposure to hands-on application. Your access to 3D printers, laser engravers, and top CAD programs like CREO and SolidWorks in high-tech spaces such as heat transfer and fluids labs, brings application and theory together.

Immediate Engagement

Jump right into your engineering coursework in your first year. Plus, IC wants you to succeed so there are no weed-out courses. We want you to explore other areas of interest and build in time for you to pursue a minor like business, chemistry, or math. Or, use that flexibility for a bridge program to calculus for students whose high school may not have offered it or a double major if you’re ready for Calc 2.

Global Impact

IC’s unique BreakAway program offers mechanical engineering students the chance to study abroad, a rare opportunity for engineering programs. BreakAways dive into a theme while traveling. For example, students on the Ethics of Innovation and Discovery: Just Because We Can, Should We? BreakAway will consider the intersection of ethics and innovation while visiting Germany and Switzerland and touring the particle collider site at CERN, a BMW factory, and the Dachau concentration camp. You’ll realize the global applications of mechanical engineering at IC and a perspective that extends beyond boards.

Engineering Scholarships

Advantage Plus offers you the freedom to pursue your academic interests and career goals by guaranteeing academic scholarships for engineering, allowing you to fully engage without financial constraints. Annual engineering scholarships start at $20,000, providing more value at a cost lower than most public schools.

A Career READY Engineering Degree

Mechanical engineers with a bachelor's degree earn an average salary of $99,510 and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects rapid growth in the field. By 2033, the anticipated 11% job growth beats the average.

Pursue a career in a wide variety of engineering fields with a degree from IC’s mechanical engineering program including aerospace, automotive, biomedical, or consumer goods. Guaranteed high-impact experiences like internships offer hands-on application in a range of industries. IC grads currently work at NASA, Lockheed Martin, Reynolds, Berry Global, and Benton & Associates

Space and Place

Work in innovative labs ensures you graduate with both the technical and critical thinking skills employers seek. Access to advanced testing equipment and simulation software provides immersive experiences that mirror professional expectations. Plus, your IC experience shapes you into a leader who can manage teams and drive projects forward.
